Circulation Policies

Books

Books can be checked out for 28 days and are renewable once. There is a 15 item limit on the number of items a patron can check out at one time. An SKCTC library card (Student ID) is required to check out materials. Renewals will be for the same period as the original checkout and take effect from the due date of the original checkout, rather than from the date of renewal.

Audio/Visuals

Up to five pieces of audio/visual materials can be checked out for three days and are renewable once. Patrons under the age of 17 must have parental consent to view or checkout audio/visual materials with an MPAA rating of "R".

Reserve Materials

Can be found behind the Circulation Desk. Individual instructors determine checkout limits. For items on 2 hour reserve, the late fine is $0.25/hour. For other reserve items, the late fine is $1.00/day. Reserve items cannot be renewed.

Reference Materials

Include almanacs, statistical info, specialized encyclopedias, and literary criticisms, which cannot be checked-out.

Magazines

Can be read or copied in the library, but do not circulate.

Overdue Fines

Students will be charged $0.10 per day per item to a maximum of $10.00 (Reserve items have a maximum fine of $20.00). A hold will be placed on the student records (transcripts, etc.) of any student who owes the library $10.00 or more in fines and fees. Patrons who owe a fine or fee of any amount shall not be allowed to check out additional materials until the fine or fee has been paid.

Lost or Damaged Materials

Replacement charges for items lost or damaged while checked out to a patron will be assessed in the amount of $30 or the actual replacement cost of the item, whichever is greater, plus a $10 processing fee. Late charges will not be assessed whenever these replacement charges are paid.

Library Cards

The SKCTC student ID card also serves as a library card. ID cards are valid for entire academic year. If you lose your ID card, you must pay $10.00 at the SKCTC Business Office, obtain a receipt, and present the receipt to the library. You will then be issued a new student ID.
